Whilst I can get my modem to work, I do not seem to be able to use the
speedtouch startup script...

Background:

Using the instructions in the SpeedTouchUSB-HOWTO I am able to initialise
the modem and connect without any problems. However when I try to run the
speedtouch script at startup it fails and I receive the messages:

"Sorry, I couldn't find your ADSL modem. Please check /proc/ ...etc... "

(In dmesg)

" usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x6b9/0x4061) is not claimed by any
active driver
     usb.c: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
     usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed dev 2 ep 0x85 len 512 ret -110 "

I've followed the instructions in the How-to. I'm running Redhat Linux 7.2
with a 2.4.18 kernel. I've compiled ppp_generic, ppp_snctty and usbcore
into the kernel with n_hdlc and usb-ohci as modules. In addition I have
appended the following line to my /etc/fstab file:

none /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs defaults 0 0

I've also installed hotplug support, however I guess the problem is
coldplugging". I've searched but not found anything that helps me out.

Can someone please put me out of my misery? ;) Would appreciate
suggestions/advice.

Many thanks

Mark Jennison
