Hello, I'm using an Alcatel Speedtouch USB with a ClarkConnect 1.1 distrib
(based on RedHat 7.2). This is a firewall oriented distribution, but which
doesn't officially support USB modems. I've installed that box 3 weeks
ago.I've set up the modem by using Benoit Papillault driver, following the
Howto, etc. For the first 2 weeks, the modem has worked flawlessly
(launching modem_run and pppd call adsl from the command line). I've seen
theconnection staying uo for as much as 5 days in a row, without a glitch.
But since the begining of last week, it seems I can't keep the connection up
and running for more than a few hours... Yesterday, I've decided to
automatize the connection on boot (using the script provided with the
driver)and force reconnection with a script checking every minute if the
connection has failed and then trying a restart of the connection script.
It seems to work fine if it's a "normal" dropped line (e,g problem coming
from the provider), as I've got one successful reconnection last night at 4
am. But there has been an other problem at 7:38, and to solve it, I had to
reboot the computer... Here is an extract of /var/log/messages: Oct 9

Inappropriate ioctl for device .... Could it be I haven't configured
correctly the script? (I'm not sure that the USB support is defined as
modules or in the kernel) Or is it a problem with the USB chipset? Any
suggestion will be welcome, of course... :) Cheers, Cedric
