Hi, I've just found the discussion on the problems Chris Bolton had with his speedtouch modem. I thought I'd share my own experiences and a working solution.
I have a Speedtouch USB modem which I use to connect to Eclipse Internet in the UK. This is on a Linux machine - RedHat 9. It appears to stop working after long periods of not being used... The command "dmesg" shows a lot of errors like this: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed dev 2 ep 0x5 len 883 ret -110 and I can't get to the Internet. After reading the discussion on this list I came to this resolution: whenever my modem stops working I become root and run the following script: killall modem_run sleep 5 killall pppd sleep 5 /sbin/rmmod usb-ohci sleep 5 /sbin/insmod usb-ohci sleep 5 /usr/sbin/modem_run -k -f /usr/lib/speedtouch/alcaudsl.sys sleep 30 /usr/sbin/pppd call speedtch sleep 5 I hope this is helpful to others with the same problem. I have 2 questions for people out there who have any idea what's going on: 1. I have to unplug my modem when I switch on the computer and then plug it in after booting, or it doesn't work. Could that problem be connected with this one? 2. Is there a way this problem can be prevented, or my script called automatically when the problem occurs? Thanks very much, Andy Balaam Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se dsinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
