I've got the same problem, whatever upload is limited or not (but very low 
rate seems
to be better, it just takes more time before the disconnection occurs)

After many many tests, the last thing I have to try is to change my motherboard
because of this crappy VIA chipset... or get an Ethernet modem/router ... :p
I have two workstations, 1 FreeBSD, 1 Windows, same problem on both... same
motherboards... same VIA chipset. Tried all firmwares available. I now use 
the most
recent one.
