I have a PPPoA DSL connection that a poor quality Actiontec modem/router
runs at 1536 down and 896 up. In the interest of making things work
better I am upgrading my router to an old laptop with a dead screen and
an Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem (the old green squashed frog model).
This lets all of the routing, etc. be controlled by a Linux box, instead
of a slightly brain dead embedded device.

I have the Speedtouch working with the kernel driver under 2.6.4 and
firmware:
Firmware info (CRC:0x78039fed, Size:762650, Checked: Yes, 3.0.6 - MacOSX
- Win32)

the problem is that the ADSL connection doesn't train as fast with the
Speedtouch as with the Actiontec:
ADSL line is up (1024 kbit/s down | 640 kbit/s up)

Is there any way to force the Speedtouch to sync at the faster speeds?

Would one of the more modern Speedtouch USB modems, such as a 330 work
better?

Thanks.
