Well I did apt-get --purge remove speedtouch so I assume it would have deleted
that file for me. Anyway, it all seems to be working now! I was
focusing too hard
on modem_run, when I actually just plugged the line into the wall before doing
invoke-rc.d speedtouch-full start it actually worked. :)

No need to apologise, your english is much better than my french. If you want
I wouldn't mind correcting some of the grammar in speedtouch-full.templates
but it's up to you. Also, I found the section that asked for your username a
bit confusing because it tells you that your username should be in the form
"fti/xxxxxxx", but AFAIK this is only the case if you use Wanadoo in france, at
least for me it seems to work perfectly fine without it.
