hello,

first thanks for setting up this mailing list and the
linux-usb.org-site. (vous pouvez aussi me rpondre en francais...)

i am having troubles with following configuration:

- following instructions at
<http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/suse/9.1-pers.html>
- suse 9.2 on a PIII with usb1.0
- thomson speedtouch 300 (silver) connected to the austrian ISP uta.at
(pppoA/vcmux over vp/vc8.48) with a user of the type
<NAME>@[EMAIL PROTECTED]

note: the pc has 2 additional PCI network cards, with one of them i did
the linux network install over a second win pc and network pipe through,
this acts like a DHCP LAN. i have no problems installing and calling
linux-atm i do also have the modem correctly listed at yast2>control
center>hardware info>USB>Speed Touch ISDN once the system has started up.

i do have conflicts noted in /var/log/messages and /var/log/warn and of
course no connection.

most important may be:

Feb 9 11:02:13 linux kernel: PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
Feb 9 11:02:14 linux kernel: module pppoatm unsupported by SUSE/Novell,
tainting kernel.
Feb 9 11:02:14 linux modem_run[5870]: modem_run version 1.2 started by

Feb 9 11:02:14 linux modem_run[5870]: Another program/driver is already
accessing the modem (interface 2 cannot be claimed)...

Feb 9 11:02:46 linux kernel: usb 1-2: bulk timeout on ep5in
Feb 9 11:02:46 linux Speedmgmt[2874]: bulk_read: Connection timed out
Feb 9 11:02:46 linux kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep

Feb 9 11:02:48 linux kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed
cmd speedmgmt rqt 192 rq 18 len 0 ret -110
Feb 9 11:02:50 linux kernel: usb 1-2: control timeout on ep0in
Feb 9 11:02:50 linux kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed
cmd speedmgmt rqt 192 rq 18 len 4 ret -110

btw. i wonder what /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap (described at
<http://portal.suse.de/sdb/de/2002/05/configSpeedTouch.html>) is for.
this file holds information about an "Alcatel" USM modem, but mine is
definitely a "Thomson".

i also tested PPPoE, but these results were worse (hang of the system).

any hint would be appreciated, i am not a hardcore linux user, but was
able so far to use standard hardware. usb adls doesn't seem to be
standard ;-(

thx
andr
