Unless you use a more advanced version than libpcap-0.8.3, you may have some problem with dial on demand. A cvs libpcap version should support the new DLT_PPPWITHDIRECTION.
This is why I revert to ppp-2.4.2. I did not test the persist option with ppp-2.4.3 as I now use a stronger script wich is started every time ip-down is run to reconnect. This allow to recover from some weird behavior (reset usb if trouble, ghost connection with PPPoE, attempt to connect with PPPoA wich fail but did not end, synch again other modems than speedtouch wich need a external program to be started to synch ).
