Hi guys, hate to look stupid, but hey, you use what your given :-), have
spent a couple of weeks with this now, so time to swallow my pride and see
if anyone can/is willing to help.

My Position:

-Linux ignoramus. Have "used" unix systems - a long time ago,
and never administrated.

-Windows developer, so can understand a bit of techy
gobbledygook :-D

-Wanted some gentle Linux experience (so went for a popular
linux)

My problem.

I have a Speedtouch 330, Burgandy, (rev 2.0). Having followed several sets
of instructions for kernel and user mode application I have so far not
managed to connect at all. As far as I understand it the operation works
something like.

USBFS loaded -> firmware loaded (which establishes line availability
andconfig) -> ppp deamon started (-> calls connection/configuration scripts
-> connects)

During boot, the firmware (/lib/firmware/[speedtch-1.bin &speedtch-2.bin])
is supposed to load itself. There is no sign of this happening in the boot
log, or system log. Well, down to suse 10 maybe, although their
documentation agrees that this should happen. But I sat there watching the
lights too - just to check :D.

Still - no worries, put the hotplug script into the /etc/hotplug dir,
although no idea how this is called, I assume linux internals look for
scripts, or excute all scripts on hotplug event, still, no joy with that
either.

So manually ran modem_run - woohoo!!!! Flashing lights, great stuff.

Checked logs and indeed

(chose verbose 2 so) .

Oct 30 22:29:01 linux modem_run[7097]: ADSL line is up (2272 kbit/s down |
288 kbit/s up)

Then used kinternet (which uses smpppd, which still uses login script)

PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.38

pppd[7102]: connect(0.38): No such device

Please please please! Can you/will you help?
