Thanks to all who replied.

I have to apologize for misleading everybody, saying that I could ping, 
  whereas I actually can't. The reply to "ping" is "destination host 
unreachable".

That means that I have a problem of connexion, not (yet) of nameservers. 
The problem seems to be "why can't I connect, although ppp0 is in order?"

I am very sorry for my mistake.
