Hi Duncan,
Thanks for the email on Friday with the advice on being able to translate IP
addresses.
I tried the "usepeerdns" route, it was already written into the /etc/ppp/peers/
file and I moved it to an earlier point thinking it might react if it saw the
instruction earlier but it didn't work.
Then I went down the /etc/resolv.conf route: I used "gedit" to type in the
"nameserver ... " primary & secondary I managed to get from Wanadoo but their
Tech man didn't seem to want to give it to me.
Then I did the last thing you should do: look in the manual!
(Red Hat Fedora Linux 2 Bible by Christopher Negus, Wiley books, 2004, ISBN
0-7645-5745-9 and comes with CDs to load linux)
By typing "neat&" in a terminal window up comes a dialogue window for Network
Configuration; I'd already tried this for setting up the modem in the "devices"
section, I deleted my set up here but went to "DNS" and typed in Wanadoo.co.uk
in the first (name) box and the primary & secondary DNS numbers in the
appropriate boxes.
Now I am writing this to you using the LINUX operating system (which is
multi-tasking and updating the system) and will send it via Mozilla Firefox.
Thanks for all the help you have given.
Finally the DNS numbers for Wanadoo:
Primary 195.92.195.94
Secondary 195.92.195.95
just in case anyone else needs them.
Cheers
Tony Byrne
