sorry if I seemed rude, I didn't mean to be.  The firmware is indeed a
proprietary binary file, and yes it contains a program.  But that program
is run by the modem, not by your computer.  Your computer simply uploads
the firmware into the modem, it doesn't execute the firmware in any way.
Since the firmware is machine code for an ARM processor, your computer
would have a lot of trouble executing it even if you tried hard :)
This is nothing like the nvidia driver, which runs on your computer.
