Hi all,

i have a strange problem with my speedtouch.

A couple of infos
My speedtouch is a Green Manta (Rev.0)
It is installed on a notebook acer travelmate 521te ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) - 128
Mb ram
O.S. is a debian stable (sarge) kernel 2.6.8-3-686 compiled by debian.

When i switch on the computer the kernel loads successfully the driver and the
speedtch script loads successfully the modem firmware.

When i launch "pppd call adsl updetach" everithing goes fine and the connection
is up, so all is right.

[Call log]
Jun 4 20:34:06 localhost pppd[4842]: Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.

Jun 4 20:39:24 localhost modem_run[1752]: [monitoring report] ADSL link stays
stable (up)

Now the problem: from times to times (randomly one hour to 24 hours) the usb
device disconnects and reconnects automatically with different usb address with
this in /var/log/messages:

Jun 5 03:19:14 localhost modem_run[1752]: [monitoring report] ADSL link went
down

obtained
Jun 5 03:20:07 localhost modem_run[5977]: ADSL line is up (1504 kbit/s down |
320 kbit/s up)

At this point if i launch "ppp call adsl updetach" the connection cannot be
completed with this error:

#Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
#connect(8.35): Address already in use

The ppp0 interface is still active. It didn't recognize the modem disconnection.

So, now i kill the pppd daemon.

The error now is:

#Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
#connect(8.35): No such device

This is the thing i can't figure out.

The only way i found to reestabilish the connection is the reboot of the
computer.

If i manually disconnect and reconnect the usb speedtouch BEFORE do "pppd call
adsl updetach" the connection is successfully estabilished with alcatel usb
address of 3 (or 4 or 5 ecc.).

The problem arise only when the disconnection of the usb happens AFTER the pppd
call.

I think this is a pppd problem, but i can't find ways to solve or workaround it.

Any idea ?

Thx
