Hello,
I am trying to connect from SUSE Linux 10.1 to Karoo broadband in the UK
using, I think, a Speedtouch revision 4 modem, well it is silver. I have
gone through the 'How To' at www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/suse/index.html
and I think I have followed all the steps. My speedtch file is:
noipdefault
defaultroute
user 'karuo4mm'
noauth
updetach
usepeerdns
plugin pppoatm.so
0.38
debug
I have installed this and the dial and secrets files as stated in the
'Tidying Up' section and they seem to have been copied into the appropriate
folders.
When I watch the lights on the front of the modem as the computer boots up,
both lights go green then the left one stays on while the right one flashes
green nine times then stays green again. This seems to indicate the
firmware is installed correctly.
However, when I try to access a web page via Firefox or Konqueror it is
always 'cannot find server'.
I found the following messages when I did dmesg:
PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
pppoatm: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag.
...
ATM dev 0: ADSL line is up (2304 kb/s down | 288 kb/s up)
I am a bit worried about the second line, can anybody tell me what it means?
Also, I found the following in /var/log/localmessages:
Jun 22 17:45:44 linux-igce pppd[2986]: Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
Jun 22 17:45:44 linux-igce pppd[2986]: PPPoATM plugin_init

(it sent the above message every two seconds!)

Jun 22 17:47:45 linux-igce pppd[2986]: Modem hangup
Jun 22 17:47:45 linux-igce pppd[2986]: Exit.
When I connect to Karoo from Windows it dials 1,50 before verifying username
and password. I can't find any reference to dialing in this Linux
information. I tried doing man pppd but there is just too much there for me
to take in. Can anyone help me to get connected?
Thanks,
Martin
