Hi All,

I've got a Speedtouch 4.00 connected to my old Linux box as an ADSL
router. After a few problems getting the firmware images, it all
worked fine.

The problem I have now, is that it intermittently stops working,
silently, with no error messages.

When this happens I have no connection and no amount of restarting
pppd can make it work again- the ONLY solution is to either cycle the
machine or unplug / replug the Speedtouch itself (this fixes it
reliably).

The only problem is that the fault will then reappear randomly.

That's to say, it's not *quite* random, it usually happens during
downloads- but there is no particular pattern apart from that.
Sometimes it happens within a minute of bootup, other times it goes
for days without happening.

One thing I wondered was whether it could be a USB issue, as I have a
very old motherboard (Intel 430VX?) from about 1996 (One of the first
to support USB).

While I don't normally use other USB devices in the machine, I have
previously and they've worked fine.

Mark
