Unfortunately it is a bug, in fact two bugs.
I've checked out whole sphinx from trunk, launched sphinx-quickstart
and made a default conf.py and index.rst, changed language to 'pl' and
ran make. And unfortunately the three: 'Index', 'Module Index' and
'Search Page' *are* in English. I don't know how can it work fine for
you (a few hundreds km north :-)).

The second bug was mine. When I wrote Polish version of .po/.mo, the
names 'Module Index' and 'Search Page' were slightly different:
'Module index' and 'Search page'. I missed that. That was the reason
why only 'Index' changed to 'Indeks'.
But there *is* a bug in environment.py. Now, when I change 'XXX' to
_('XXX') and the localization ids are same as in environment.py
everything works fine.
So may I ask those who have access to SVN to correct it?
