Hey Folks,
First, a quick introduction since I'm new here. My name is Jacob Mason
and I'm a senior computer science student at the University of
Nebraska in Kearney. I'm interested in doing development for Sphinx
for the GSOC. Sorry for joining the conversation a bit late, but I
didn't realize graduation seniors could participate until last night.
The projects I'm most interested in are the completion/integration of
the web app and the porting of Sphinx to Python 3.
I just cloned the sphinx-gsoc2009 repository and am taking a look at
the code now. A little guidance would be greatly appreciated though.
The student who participated last year listed these deliverables:
* Integrate the web framework into Sphinx.
* Implement server-side search.
* Implement logging mechanism.
* Implement per-paragraph button for displaying/hiding the
comments.
* Implement a post form.
* Implement comments/diffs view for ordinary users.
* Implement threading and comment rating for comments view.
* Implement threading for diffs view.
* Implement comments/diffs view for developers.
* Integrate diffs view with the VCSs.
* Write/update documentation.
Which of these items have been completed? Also, just so I know how to
create my schedule, which project do you deem most important for
Sphinx, the port to Python 3 or the web application?
Since I know there is already interest in this project I'm considering
applying for the translation project as a backup. Coming up with a
solution seems like quite a challenge though, since in my experience
automatic translation services just aren't very good. Have any ideas
been tossed around about how to solve this?
Jacob
