Whether you are in a section, part, subsection, etc. is determined by the overall structure of the document, not by the particular character (#, *, -, ...) used as an underline or underline/overline. Try the following: ############# title, ignore ############# unique parts ****** part 1 ****** chap 1 ------ etc. chap 2 ------ etc. best, Erik
