I'm trying to exclude whole sub-sections based on a condition as follows:

My doc
======
.. toctree::
:maxdepth: 2
section-a
section-a.rst:
=========
Section a
=========
.. toctree::
:maxdepth: 2
section-1
.. only:: 2
.. toctree::
:maxdepth: 2
section-2
.. toctree::
:maxdepth: 2
section-3

However, when the condition is true, "section-2" appears twice in the HTML
output's toc:
Section a
section-1
section-2
section-2
section-3
