Hi Craig, Thanks for the advice, but this doesn't answer my question. I need a distributor before I can think about spark boxes. And to be perfectly frank, I've used the Pertronix ignitor with a Delco D200 and the performance was exceptionally smooth and more than acceptable for my use, plus, I like that it all fits under the cap. It's just a personal thing with me, but I don't like adding boxes to the engine compartment that weren't there to begin with. But I really dig "stealth" improvements like the Pertronix.
Best wishes, Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: Craig Smith To: 'Jeff McNeal' ; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, June 06, 2002 8:49 AM Subject: RE: Getting Dizzy aka Distributor Question Jeff, Don't waist all the machine shop work going cheap with the ignition ! Go get yourself the following MSD-6A @ $131.95, Ignition control box, Multiple spark MSD-8982 @ $119.95, timing retard unit. Lock out the advance in the Dizzy. You can read about these @ http://www.msdignition.com/ Major difference, you'll still be DOT legal -----Original Message----- From: Jeff McNeal [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, June 06, 2002 11:14 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Getting Dizzy aka Distributor Question Listers, I have a newly rebuilt, balanced, 1972 MKIV 1300 engine that I'm about to drop into my project chassis after having a couple of mods made at the machine shop (increasing compression ratio from 8.0:1 to 9.5:1 and having the cam reground for better performance). The original engine was fitted with a vacuum retard distributor, however I don't have one at all at present. I'd like to find a vacuum advance type, the Delco D200, that was fitted to all the other Mk3 1300 engines. Is there any reason I can't use this type of distributor, or am I free to try and source one of these, so I might actually be able to run the engine eventually? ;-) TIA.
