To Paul and all: Paul - funny you should mention the choke regarding a DCOE. I have a DCOE 45 in my '74, and it starts hot or cold with no choke at all - in fact using the choke causes a quick death to the engine or prevents it from starting. Do you think I need to replace it or is there some adjustment that I can be make? I am not too smart on these carbs - all I know is that once I go two or three blocks mine runs really well - until then the idle is a bit rough and low, but it will still stay running - just better to give it a bit of gas to raise the rpm up by a couple hundred to smooth her out until she warms up. I'd sure appreciate your opinion as there are no decent British mechanics within six hundred miles of here (that I have been able to find). TIA for your help, and to anyone else that might have some insight....

You won't know until you have it in hand if it's junk or not :-) Seriously Patrick, do a couple of quick calculations on bore size of a pair of HS4s, HS2s' etc and compare to the 40mm (maximum) of the DCOE 40. you'll quickly realize 40mm is 1.57" dia. ...near enough dual HS4's. But in practice, something closer to 34-36 mm chokes will work better and give you a wider range of adjustability. When people bitch about dcoe performance problems with their installation, it's usually they simply tried to use too large a choke. Sure a DCOE can give massive WOT, but a little common sense of choke sizes and it'll perform as well if not better than any carb. Some will say the single dcoe manifold starves 1&4 cyls (unequal length ports) ....horse dung! NO manifold except specifically designed as a 'tuned port' manifold have equal runners to all cylinders especially not on LBC.s Paul Tegler [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.teglerizer.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bowen, Patrick" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, July 01, 2002 3:33 PM Subject: Ebay find! Just to share in a little bit of excitement, I was on ebay on Saturday surfing the Spitfire parts that were available and came upon a Weber DCOE 40 carburator with intake. It had just been posted, with a starting bid of $10, and a buy it now bid of $100. I figured this guy either doesn't know the value or made a mistake. I picked it up on the buy it now bid of $100 for my 1500, knowing these typically sell in the $300 range. Is it possible that I bought junk, oh maybe - pictues were pretty good and complete. Besides if you don't take occasional risks, what do you gain? Real question, I know the dcoe 45 is preferred for single carb installations. How good is the DCOE 40? I currently have a DGAV 32/36. Paul Tegler your the expert fill me in, or did I make a drastic mistake?
