Steve, I managed it with brute force and either an adjustable spanner or a pair of mole grips (vise grips to Americans?) - can't remember which. However, at #7 each for a replacement nut (Rimmers only sell them as a package with the seal and chrome bezel) mole grips might spoil the finish somewhat, if you care about such details (which I don't).
