List members, Thanks to all who quickly responded; the general consensus was to cut them off since they were giving me so much difficulty. My new diamond wheel set for dremel tools made quick work of the brass nuts (I knew i bought it for a good reason!) After barely cutting down to the threads, the brass was soft enough to pry/break off without harming anything.
