OK, so I got my dual gauge I order from Rimmer's in February at long last. Good thing is the oil pressure looks just great.
On installing I had/have a couple of problems: It's a mechanical temp guage not electrical. Fitting on thermostat housing needs extra part. Looked at Paul Tegler's page and he fitted a Midget part. So off the the hardware stores (Lowes in this case) and got a similar adapter for under $2. Only problem is that it's too thin an internal diameter for the new sensor. Get the drill out and hey presto it, first problem solved. Second thing is that the bezel is all chrome. Current gauges all have black painted inside next to glass. I could have swapped off the bezel one but just popped the new one off, grabbed the can of black matt spray paint off the shelf, taped and painted the bezel to match. OK second problem solved. Looks good. Need to get that veneer replaced some day. Maybe this winter. Third problem: I have not found a perfect solution to as yet is that the gauge does not have a built in green filter to match. I tried some of my daughter's green acryllic paint but it peels off like rubber when it gets hot. I see the old gauge has a green filter built in. Anybody come up with a good solution. I am thinking of stuffing a couple of green LED's in there. Fourth problem (or question) :Also I wanted to change the oil filter to the 3/4"-16 thread so that I could fit a better choice of filters and bought another adapter at the hardware store. ( cheater on the thread as I went to the oil change place and asked for an old filter and got new damaged one that I tool to match teh thread - I confirmed via the web that the thread is correct for filters that fit the Spitfire). Again it needed the inside bored out so that it's all the same diameter all the was through so as not to restrict the oil flow. Cheaper than the catalogues and I could not find a store that sold one locally. It's a brass fitting. Any problem with that? Will the engine oil eat it. I can easily replace, but what would dissolved brass do in the oil. Are there not other brass parts in the engine anyway? Anybody good any ideas for 3 and an answer for 4. If anybody wants I can look up the part numbers of the fittings so that they don't have to spent half an hour searching for theright ones.
