I was thinking it would be a good idea to get some cheap oil to flush the engine through with, I'm not wasting my castrol gtx magnatex for that! How long should I leave the engine running to flush it through? > > Rocker shaft dismantle the rockers off the shaft and flush through if > you > must, if the shaft has picked-up where the rockers pivot you'll need to > replace that (the shafts are made from a hard/tough steel-has anyone > found > any alternative uses for used rocker shafts?) > I had just checked the rocker assembly and I reckon it's toast. The rockers are very stiff on the shaft. I will get a whole new assembly to be on the safe side. Unfortunately the rocker shaft from my old engine is also knackered. > Dodgy head gaskets, blown between the cylinder and the water jacket, > if you > look carefully you should be able to see where it went...seriously > consider > taking the head to a machine shop and getting it skimmed to make it > flat, if > it's a low comp ratio USA head, get them to skim some extra off and run > it on > 98-100 oct fuel. > I have a spare head that I am fitting from my old engine so won't need to get that skimmed. > I don't like the sound of bouncing valves off piston crowns...check the > valve > very carefully and all the other springs too have you not got double > valve > springs on your head I thougt all GT6s had double springs... > they are double valve springs (on both engines) and as I'm fitting the spare (working) head all the valves should work ok. Somehow both springs broke which dropped the valve onto the piston. The car only ran for a very short time after this happened. I also had a poke around with a screwdriver in the cooling system drain hole on the side of the block to find that it is really very silted up with what looks like dirt, it is brown, not metallic and you can crumble it in your hands. I'm not sure where it came from or where it has collected, but I am assuming that a garage should have the correct equipment for getting rid of it all somehow? To clean out a very slited up cooling system would a garage need the head on or off the car? oh well, hopefully I'll have a working car sometime in the next few months........................ cheers John Yahoo!
