Ted, if I understood it correctly, the original poster is talking about the
tapered semi-hard rubber plinths that go between the turn signal lenses and
the body of the car.  Unlike the flat rubber between the brake lights, these
would not be easy to fabricate in the manner you suggest.  But I still like
your suggestion for the gaskets that would be easily replaced with the
urethane!

  why bother witht he rubber?  jsut go an industrial plastics supply house
  asnd buy some sheet urethane.  you can cut your own.  they will never
  degrade from  weather, etc. ted
