I'm having a little problem with my '78 Spit 1500. With headlights off all is well and good. Step on brake, all brake lights go on. With headlights on, step on brake, brake lights on one side go on, other side both brake and marker (within same bulb) goes off. Release brake pedal and everything goes back to normal. By switching the lamp holder from left side to right side and keeping everything else the same, I can move the "one side out completely" from the left to the right side too. If I switch the bulbs only, the problem does not move with it. I conclude that I have a problem with the lamp holder. I'm usually mystified by electricity but I suspect a grounding or shorting problem within the lamp holder. Can anyone give my some recommedation on what course of action is best here. I've already looked at the "replace holder and see what happens" path, but I have to buy the complete rear lamp assembly from the parts house.....YIKES! I'm looking for a less expensive fix if at all possible.
