Rick, I went 510 ohm (not k) 1/4 W to be on the safe side. It's a 6000 mcd high
intensity white LED. Normal green ones are nowhere near bright enough. Though I
believe you can get some high intensity ones now. I used it on my new combined oil
pressure/temp gauge. It came without any coloured filter to make the light green and
was extremely dim with the standard 2w so I tried 4w and it was OK (for light
intensity) but far too hot for the plastic filter I made from office index file tabs (
just about the right shade of green, cheap and available). I stuck my LED torch
(flashlight I believe you call it) round the back and that looked not bad, hence why I
went this way.

LED is 3.6v, 20 mA nominal so I thought - lights are only on when the engine is
running - so it's at the charging voltage, hence I want to drop about 10V - 11V ->
500 ohm- 550 ohm. 11v, 20mA ->220 mw hence the 1/4W rating and it's also small enough
to fit inside the old bulb base. It cames out pretty neat for a first try.

I was asking about the valve cleaner, since like you am am worried about the
side-effects.

Is that a standard LED & 470(K?) ohm resistor, or did you use something
else? What did you use it for - an "on" indicator or something else? I have
been thinking it would be nice to have a pair of these for left & right turn
signal indicators, & maybe use the existing one for something else, or not
at all.

Never used the valve cleaner products - always been to scared to mess with
things like that for fear of bad side-effects. I would love to hear of an
objective review and ratings of these kinds of products from serious and
thorough evaluations.
