I put in the my freshly skimmed head at the weekend. I also made very sure to clean it up really well with razor blades. Did a compression check and 1,3 & 4 were all in the range 115-125 but No.2 was 83. I think this may be because of a badly seating valve because when this head was on the old engine that cylinder had low compression. For the time being I'll live with this. I guess that I'd have to get the valve seat machined to sort this? I put all new head studs and nuts in too. 2 of the new nuts stripped their threads when I was torquing down, they were also thinner than the nuts that came off.
The most annoying thing was that the threads inside the manifold stripped so I couldn't tighten it fully to the downpipe and when she started was blowing loads from here. A PO had already replaced the other 2 studs with bolts previously so I'm guessing the same thing happened here too. Unfortunately I can't do the same with this one as there is no space to get a bolt in (it's the one nearest bulkhead). So annoyingly I need to get a new manifold. The other annoying thing is that I have moved house and the car is at my old house 15 miles away so working on her is now even more awkward. cheers John /// [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list /// Send admin requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// or try http://www.team.net/cgi-bin/majorcool /// Archives at http://www.team.net/archive /// Send list postings to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// Edit your replies!
