John,

There is an easy way to test you system. Remove T-stat,
sending unit, gauge, and voltage stablizer from your car.
Then using clip leads, wire it all back together in the
house to a 12V lantern battery. Remember that you will need
a negative lead from the housing of the sending unit, as the
system gets its ground from the eng. block.

Then take a meat thermometer and boil some water. Then you
can put the sending unit and the thermometer in the water
and
see where the gauge reads. You will know it's 212F (100C)
as the water is boiling. You might want to paint a mark on
the glass face of the gauge so you actually can tell where
212
is. If you want to calibrate it at a higher temp, you will
need to heat some oil. BUT BE CAREFULL!!!! If the oil over
flows the pan, you could have a very nasty fire!!!!!

Hope this helps.

John
