If you will recall, I'm the one that blew two Spitfire engines and was thinking it may be related to running with unleaded. Well, last weekend Mark E from this list dropped by my house and we took one of the engines apart. What we found is not for the squeamish, the #1 cylinder had sucked both valves, with piston parts scattered throughout the oil pan. On my desk right now, I have a nice little piston with a valve firmly embedded in it, quite the conversation piece. http://www.home.turbopower.com/~mikew/Spitfire/69Spit_4.htm shows what we found. I'm not sure what caused this to happen, but it's nice to know that it's recoverable. For those with a lot of time to kill, I've also updated the Spitfire parts of my web site: http://www.home.turbopower.com/~mikew/Spitfire/SpitfireMain.htm
