If others use EPDM you might want to check it real close before you pour chemicals all over a brand new piece, it might turn to goo. I have also had success with MEK cleaning and shaping rubber parts, THIS stuff is three headed baby stuff so please wear some type of breathing and hand protection. MEK is a very strong solvent, it's sold in most hardware stores, it works well but the flammability and off gassing is a potential health risk. So be careful.

I am taking the tack that the rubber is REAL rubber of a latex type > and not a Hypalon or EPDM. I can't speak for other manufacturers/suppliers, but the glazing sections we produce are done in EPDM.
