FORGET the "2 deg ATDC" spec that the stock setup had. That is caused by the vacuum retard for idle emissions. As soon as you would give it any gas, the timing would jump forward to a more normal +6 degrees or so.
You can simply set the micrometer to the middle of its range, and set the idle timing with a timing light to +6 or so. Use the micrometer to experiment with the timing. It's handy since you do not have to drag out the timing light or use a wrench. BTW, when a Spit engine knocks, it is not as loud and obvious as you might think. It seems to get drowned out by all the other noises a Spit makes :-) Doug Braun '72 Spit /// [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list /// Send admin requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// or try http://www.team.net/cgi-bin/majorcool /// Archives at http://www.team.net/archive /// Send list postings to [EMAIL PROTECTED] /// Edit your replies!
