Hi Doug, No offense taken. It was just a thought that I had, and figured I'd ask the list. While I'm not an engineer, I did go to school for mechanical engineering many years ago. I have some concept of the forces involved and in strength of materials. I believe it is possible to design a roll bar that would be sufficiently strong and adjustable at the same time. It may also weight more than the car does, and be hugely impractical. But that's why I asked.

You are concerned about saving your noggin, but are willing to use an adjustable roll bar? I wouldn't want my life to depend on any hinges or bolts that would be used that would allow the bar to pivot or shrink. Either modify the top so that it fits over the roll bar, or take your chances without one.
