I'm using the harness from a '79 1500 spitfire for the convertible Gt6 project. I have everything fairly well marked at the time of disassembly. In the year that followed, a few of the tags lost their way and I would appreciate some help on the proper end termination.
Under bonnet Alternator - I installed a Bosch 65 amp unit which has the same receptacle as the spit harness. Other than the plastic receptacle, there are two wires, one (1) white, and one (1) white/blue. I have two remaining terminals at the alternator - one male spade and one bolt fixing point. Coil - There are three wires, one (1) white/yellow, and two (2) white/grey. Which goes on which side of the coil? Additionally, there is one black wire from the Lucas distributor which (I presume) goes to the (-) side of the coil. To further complicate matters, I have installed a super blue bosch coil. I have read just enough about ballast resistors that I am thoroughly confused. Do I need the ballast resistor? If not, where to the above wires terminate? OD connections - From the harness, there are two (2) green wires and one (1) green/brown wire. Under Dash >From the main harness on the drivers side (near the instrument cluster) there are two (2) green wires which come together with a female spade terminal - any guesses? Near the end of the harness on the passenger side, I have two wires; one purple and one red/white. Each of these has a female bullet style connector on them. One of the two should terminate at the cigar lighter and the other is unknown to me. If I get this sorted out and work non-stop, I may just make that car show on Saturday morning.
