I went to start up my 79 spitfire this summer and there was no spark, so I decided to lose the points once and for all and I got a pertronix kit for it, the one that fits nicely under the cap. Well now I'm really having problems. I've checked the way I wired it twice and I can't figure out what is wrong. When I have the ignitor wire prior to the ballast resistor the engine will barely crank and the resister smokes and the positive ignitor wire gets hot. So I dont' want to burn out my brand new ignition so I'm asking for some help. Anyone have any ideas? Why is my ignition drawing so much power and starving the starter? Is there some other electrical problem that could easisly solve this? Thanks.
