Though cheese=kaas.  I'll go with our Dutch friend's explanation (that Kees is
also a Dutch name with no equivalent en Engels), though this looks like the
same story, slightly skewed.

I wonder if the presence in London of Chinese restaurants and imported Dutch
cheese is why the rest of britain call cockneys "Wan-kaas"
