I had this happen 150 miles from home in the middle of nowhere with no cell
phone service. I even lost my four way flashers. Luckily it was daylight, not
raining and warm. It turned out to be one of the connectors to the solenoid
had popped loose after hitting a particularly nasty pothole.

Even with a bad ignition switch, you should be able to start and run the car
by running a jumper wire directly from the hot side of the solenoid to the
one side of the coil (I think it's the + side) and engaging the starter with
a screwdriver across the two heavy lugs on the solenoid (or push starting
the car). I drove mine for a week like that once while waiting for a
new ignition switch to come through the mail.

Best!

Subject: Complete Loss of Electrical
Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2005 13:30:30 -0800

I hate electrical problems so hopefully someone has a suggestion for me.

Right now I'm gettign no electrical power at all. I turn the key and
don't even get the faintest glow on the indicator lights, power to the
radio, starter, etc.

The problem occurred when I was out driving around. I have had some
vapor lock problems and the car started to sputter a little like vapor
lock so I pulled over and let it idle. It idled fine for about 5
minutes then started to stall. I tried to press the gas, but it just
died. When I tried to start it I did't get any power to anything like I
mention above.

I had my wife come and find me and tried to jump it just in case it was
the battery, but still no juice. I had the car towed home and have
tried to trace the issue with a multi-meter, but when you're not getting
electricy flow it's hard to trace the problem (at least for me).

I'm guessing it my problem is in the ignition unit on the steering
column, but I don't want to go out and buy new parts and replace old
ones indescriminately in hopes of solving the problem.

Any thoughts anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bob
