Dear Larry,

It's been over twenty years since I took the test, but back then, you had to score 148 on the invigilated test to be invited to join. Prior to taking an invigilated test, you could take a "home test". The tendency was for the home test to come up with a score about ten marks lower than the real thing, and a score of 138 would have led to you being invited to take the invigilated test. Note that there are two completely different tests used to measure IQ, that give completely different scores. One is called the Cattell test (and is the one that used to be used by Mensa, and may still be); I can't recall the name of the other (it might have been "Progressive Matrices" or something like that), but it scores much lower for the same IQ. If memory serves, 130 on this other test equates to 148 on the Mensa test. I don't know the "tickle test", but assuming it is one of these two, it would appear that you are on track for Mensa membership.

You might be interested to know that a score of 140 on an invigilated Cattell test is officially known as "Genius Level". :-)

In addition to Mensa, which welcomes anyone in the top 2% of IQ, there used to be a couple of other High IQ societies. Again, the names escape me, but one was restricted to the top 1% of IQ and one was for the top 0.1% of IQ. I think both societies eventually failed, due to lack of members! You need a score of 155 to get into the top 1%. I think the score for the top 0.1% was somewhere in the 170s. A friend of mine sat the test when she was at school, and managed to score what was then a record-breaking 223 (out of 200 - the scores are weighted by age for under-18s).
