Do you have spark? Pull one of the sparkplug wires off of the plug and hold (with insulated pliers) near a good ground (engine head) and see if there is a spark when the ignition key is switched on. If not, check the coil, distributor, ignition switch, etc.
Do you have fuel? Disconnect the input fuel line from the carbs and redirect the fuel pump output into a clean mayo jar. Try to start. You should see fuel coming out of the fuel line. If not, work backwards towards the fuel tank. Good luck. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Thomas Dertz Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2006 2:33 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Starting trobles All, The roadster season starts late here in the cold north, and mine seems to be delayed another bit. Today I drained an entire battery trying to get the engine running after having the '66 Spitfire in storage for the winter. Previous years it has been a bit difficult to start, but today there was no life. Tried to use starter gas, but it had no effect. Through the entire process I never heard the engine "fire" once (not even with gas). Can the fuel pump be out? I did not smell any gasoline from the engine. Tried to use much choke, little choke, pump the pedal and not. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Thomas Your messages not reaching the list?
