Andy...(and all) don't forget the funky late Spit switch. Not uncommon at
all for the mains connection to 'make' but not the running lights, dash and
etc.

One word: fuse.
Three words: wiggle the fuse.
Five words: clean fusebox contacts; replace fuse. (Clean up the whole
fusebox while you're at it.)
I'll be surprised if that's NOT the problem!
