Thanks Jim and Bob, The new spring looks like the old one, same number of leafs. When I took the old spring out, it had the big clamp housing on the center that covers the top 4 leafs. It had a plate (with the 4 mounting holes) between leaf #1 and #2 (going from bottom to top). I removed the plate first and put it in the same location on the new spring. I then removed that center nut that holds the big clamp housing (holds #2 through #5). When I reassembled, I used 4 bolts to compress the clamp to the plate and the center bolt with the sleeve does not line up, the sleeve is sitting too low.
I am thinking about putting the spring back in minus the top little leaf and big housing. Step 2 would be insert the little leaf from the top (inside the car) along with the big housing and tighten everything up. This of course means not reusing the sleeve and nut. I really do not see why it is needed myself unless I am missing something. It seems it was put there to keep things together for a faster install at the factory. If I go that route, I really do not forsee how it could make a problem by not being there. The clamps on the springs (4) should keep it all together. If I am missing something here, let me know. I wish I could describe this better. Not easy unless you are here eyeballing it. The Haynes manual and Official whatever book do not help a bit for once.
