I have noticed on all of my Triumphs that a worn boot lid seal will cause exhaust fumes to enter the cabin when the roof is up.
In my Stag, with a hardtop, I ocasionally don't get the boot lid lock engauged and as soon as I hit about 40 mph you can smell it. The lenght of the exhaust does not seem to be a factor.
