There was definitely a trunk light available - you can still get them from some of the parts vendors I believe. I have the wiring for mine still, although the light is long-gone. It is wrapped in the same line as the sending unit wiring. The light mounted in the panel that covers the gas tank.
I always suspected (guess I could go check the wiring with a meter) that the light was on anytime the headlights are on (?) - I've never seen a switch or a built-in spot to mount one.
