Unfortunately, my 1980 Spitfire is no longer stock, so I can't give you measurements.
However, the 78s will have a different opening than the 79-80, at least in the states. The 79-80 has the black "rubber" bumpers with a grill opening in the bumper. The 78 has a chrome bumper and grill under it.
