Team:

Last night I finally received my new headers from Hotshot. They look to
be very nice quality and I figured that I would go ahead and install
them.

Now let me tell you, I don't know what type of engineering these people
are doing over at Hotshot, but I am extremely disappointed with the
fitment of this product.

The first problem that I had was getting the holes to line up with the
exhaust studs on the head. It seems that the holes are not lined up
correctly. I did manage to get the header on eventually, but it was a
struggle.

After I got the header on, two of the welds interfered with the nuts
that hold the unit on. The only way around this will be for me to try to
find a different style of nut or to grind down some of the weld.

Then comes the downpipe. This unit slips over the collector header and
is supposed to be held together with a single bolt. This bolt goes
through a little sleeve located on the header and the downpipe. There is
no gasket material between the header and downpipe either. And this is
supposed to seal??? The bolt that they supplied is just a tiny #10 at
most and once it goes through the sleeves, it is so close to the side of
the collector, that you can't get the nut on to tighten it down. I know
this because I tried for 4 hours last night to get this setup to work.

While the header is installed at this time, it is unfinished, it leaks,
and I am not happy with the trouble that I had to go through, only to
find out that it truly is not an easy bolt on installation.

My only choice that I can see at this point is to remove the entire
setup and have some weld the downpipe directly to the header and then
reinstall the unit from underneath.

Has anyone else had this experience with the header on the SOHC cars? I
would like to hear from you if you have and what you did to resolve the
problem.

Thanks,

Scott W. Thomas, MCSE
