It's simply 3 nuts on the upper strut mount, two bolts on the lower mount,
and the whole assembly comes right off. Compress the spring, one more bolt
to release the upper mount from the strut, and it comes apart. Assembly is
the reverse procedure. Very easy to do on a Saturn, so if you have an
itching to do it yourself, then go for it. Your 2001 suspension is
identical to all S series Saturns from 1991 to 2002, so the Haynes book will
work fine. Only "special tool" you may need is a Torx bit to hold the shaft
of the stock strut while you loosen the nut from it, and since you work on
Saturns, you may already have this anyway. A second person is sometimes
handy to help hold parts in place while you attach them and so on, but it
could be done by yourself. With a whole bunch of people it takes no time at
all - I believe the SPOC NE record is a mere 45 minutes for all four corners
at one of our garage days! Oh, and the car even managed to drive away
afterward, too. ;)
You'll still need the alignment, but getting that from a shop is probably
easier than convincing a shop to put the parts on for you.
