Brian and I pulled into my driveway at about 12:30 this morning. I still
need to take him home and to his disabled SL2, but we're back in our neck of
the woods safely, and only sat in traffic for a couple of minutes in
Hartford, CT, where they decided to turn a 3-lane interstate into 1 lane.
I had a total blast, as usual, and will have lots of fun editing down the
video I got of cars, girls, and smoky burnouts (many of them... *ahem*
"unofficial," like the Firebird that blew his engine). I was being too
practical when I said I wasn't going to be able to make it. I really needed
the break from the job hunt. And, as it turns out, I really didn't miss any
hot job leads while I was gone.
I didn't even get a chance to WASH my SL2 the whole weekend, never mind
detail it, so I wasn't really in it for the show. I think I made up for it
at Sunday's time trial. :) Out of something like 15-20 entries in my
class - by far the largest class - I was one of only two people to run
faster than 1:20, with a 1:19, and took 2nd in class. I was beaten by a
modified Eclipse that ran a 1:18. Given an SL2 with a completely stock
suspension, I'm OK with 2nd. :)
And congrats to Scott Thomas for totally dominating his class! It was much
smaller than mine, but he thrashed his SL to a winning time of 1:21. That's
5 seconds faster than the second place guy, and just 2 seconds behind me.
And having forgotten to turn it back on, he did it WITHOUT the use of giggle
gas! I'm not sure which of us would've been faster if he'd used it. :)
If the sale of my SL2 and purchase of my father-in-law's BMW works out, I'll
be moving away from Saturns. But you'd better believe I'll be hanging with
SPOC at Carlisle, whatever I may be driving!
