I've been sitting here listening to the "Whales" station on 10512 kHz for a
while. At 0505Z there was a sudden change in the loping, wandering tones.
It suddenly went into a rapid pattern of uniform tone changes for a minute,
then went back to the slowly wandering tone changes
I've noticed changes in it as well. There are times when there seems to
be a voice under all that feedback; I wonder if a program like SoundHack
could be used to remove enough of that 'whaling' to make the voices (if
any) intelligible. I know it can be used to remove the carrier from a
vocoded voice, leaving enough audio behind to give some idea of what the
original voice sounds like...
Has anyone tried recording this station and playing it back at different
speeds, faster and slower?
I'm getting too much interference to make a good recording, although the
signal has been coming in strong during the evenings.
There certainly are some mysterious things to be heard on shortwave!
Yes-- verrrry in-ter-es-ting!
