I heard the same variations. My guess is that it may be more than one transmitter/site. The guy sure is persistent! Time for a new sound bite though :-)

Could you see a pattern to the signal strengths? It seemed like those nearest the 30sec mark were stronger here in Western (Salem) Oregon CN84lv

The signal seems to be changing strength as if he's switching antennas or changing the direction of a beam. I've spent the night working people on 40 meters and this signal strength variation isn't due to propagation tonight.

I copy Sam now ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) with the whole "smithereenies" line of
text on 6500khz. He was right in there with USCG NRV at 6501khz as far
as signal was concerned. Equal copy in both sidebands., no AM carrier
present. Better copy LSB.
